ThinkPub is delighted to announce Thinking Literature in Translation, a two-day international conference dedicated to the present and future of translated literature in Europe. Taking place on 13–14 November 2025 at Alma Alter Hall, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” the event convenes 40 professionals from 13 European countries—publishers, rights agents, festival curators, academics, translators, and data experts—to share insights, compare models, and chart practical pathways for stronger circulation of books across languages.

Across keynotes, case-study panels, and focused discussions, the conference asks: What are the gateways to exporting literature? What trends shape the European translation market? Can the international success of one author open doors for an entire national literature? How do public funding and fellowships influence rights sales? What is the real impact of TikTok on publishers’ decisions and readers’ behaviour? And how should the sector meet the opportunities—and risks—of AI?

Over two days, participants will map current market trends and challenges, explore rights strategies beyond the “big” markets, unpack marketing and promotion for translated books (from professional campaigns to BookTok dynamics), spotlight children’s and YA translations, connect translation in academia with industry practice, and deep-dive into digital transformation—from audio publishing to AI in translation and publishing. The programme blends report presentations, expert panels, and an open debate on the question: Who is afraid of AI?
