On Tuesday, 15 April 2026, ThinkPub arrives at the Bologna Book Fair with a dedicated session on translation markets across Europe, hosted within the BolognaBookPlus programme at the BolognaBookPlus Theatre (Hall 29, Mall 1).
Under the title “Status and Dynamics of Translation Markets Across Europe”, the event presents key findings from the ThinkPub.eu Translation Report, offering a comprehensive overview of how literary works circulate across the continent today. Drawing on data and case studies from a wide range of countries — from Spain and Slovenia to Bulgaria, the Baltics, Germany, France, and the Nordic region — the session highlights both shared patterns and regional specificities within European publishing.
The discussion will explore how translation ecosystems are evolving in response to broader structural shifts: the growing dominance of Global English, changing source-language dynamics, and the increasing complexity of cross-border publishing. At the same time, it will reflect on the position of smaller languages and markets, and the role of publishers, translators, and institutions in sustaining bibliodiversity across Europe.
Join us for a focused exchange bringing together leading experts in publishing, research, and cultural policy, as they address key questions: How do translation flows shape literary visibility in Europe? What are the current imbalances and opportunities within the system? And how can the sector respond to ensure a more diverse and resilient publishing landscape?
