AI and Audio Innovation: Licensing, Marketing, Production and Distribution | John Ruhrmann, Ralf Biesemeier, Robert Holmström and Rickard Lundberg

Fundación Germán Sánchez Ruipérez

Recorded at PARIX Audio Day 2026 in Madrid on 19 February 2026, this panel examines how artificial intelligence is transforming audiobook licensing, marketing, production and international distribution. Representatives from Bookwire, Zebralution, Earselect and Aniara describe how their companies work with publishers across different markets and at different stages of the audio value chain.

The speakers identify uncertainty as one of the industry’s central difficulties. Publishers face an expanding range of AI tools without enough reliable information to determine which solutions offer genuine value. In marketing, however, AI can already improve audience targeting and discoverability in a market where the volume of available content continues to grow rapidly.

The discussion also addresses synthetic narration, quality control and the need for meaningful consumption data. AI-generated voices can make previously unviable backlist titles available in audio, but adoption requires transparency, appropriate quality standards and a clearer understanding of how listeners respond to human and artificial narration.

Finally, the panel considers licensing and business models for an AI economy. The participants argue that publishers and technology companies must establish fair commercial relationships governing training data, copyright and new uses of content. AI should be understood as another distribution and production channel whose value depends on responsible implementation, experimentation and collaboration.
