Presented by Carlo Carrenho on September 10, 2026, at the International Summit of Audio Publishers, this presentation compares two remarkably different audiobook markets: Brazil and Poland. It offers a rapid overview of their size, development, business models, principal companies and prospects for further growth.
The Brazilian section examines 2025 publishing revenues, the profile of digital readers and the unusual tax strategy that stimulated large-scale audiobook production. It also discusses Audible’s role in the market and draws on PopStories’ private sales data to illustrate the distribution of audiobook revenue among Brazilian platforms.
The Polish section presents publishing and audiobook-market figures alongside the country’s principal services, including Empik Go, Audioteka, Legimi, Storytel and BookBeat. The presentation estimates total audiobook revenue at USD 63.3 million, with subscriptions accounting for 70.4% and à-la-carte purchases for 29.6%.
Together, the two cases demonstrate that audiobook markets can expand through very different combinations of investment, partnerships, subscription services and local market conditions.
