Priyanka Dalotra and Laurent Le Meur delivered this presentation at the Digital Publishing Summit in Prague on 8–9 June 2026. It provides a global checkpoint on Readium LCP deployment and its development as an open, interoperable content-protection system.
Dalotra reports that LCP-protected content is present in more than 100 countries, covering over 12 million ebooks in 51 languages. The ecosystem includes approximately 50 deployed LCP servers, more implementations in development, over 200 mobile applications and growing support among desktop applications and e-ink devices. Integrators discussed include EBSCO, eBooks.com, Bookshop.org, BiblioCommons and Kobo.
The roadmap concentrates on LCP Server version 2, newer security profiles, updated mobile and desktop toolkits and greater automation of onboarding procedures. Remaining challenges include legacy systems, inconsistent accessibility among devices, fragmented hardware support, restrictions on sideloading and organisations that continue to prefer closed ecosystems.
Le Meur also introduces Web Content Protection, which extends interoperable protection to browser-based reading. Planned features include session and device controls, encrypted assets and evolving security profiles. The speakers argue that LCP’s next phase should expand beyond libraries and trade publishing into education and institutional markets while continuing to improve security, accessibility and implementation support.
