Thinking Literature in Translation brought together scholars and university educators to reflect on the role of literary translation within academic contexts.

The panel Literary Translation in Academia examined how translation had been taught, researched, and positioned within university curricula, particularly in the fields of literary studies, language studies, and comparative literature. The discussion addressed current academic approaches to literary translation, including theoretical frameworks, pedagogical models, and the relationship between scholarly research and professional translation practice.

The speakers reflected on how academic institutions had contributed to shaping translation standards, training future translators, and fostering dialogue between academia and the publishing sector. Broader topics included the visibility of translation in literary studies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the challenges and opportunities facing literary translation within contemporary higher education.

The conference was organised by the Next Page Foundation in partnership with the Cultural Center of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Department of English and American Studies at Sofia University, and the Bulgarian Book Association.
