Thinking Literature in Translation brought together cultural professionals, programme curators, and policy experts to examine the key infrastructures and support mechanisms enabling literary translation in Europe.

The panel Gateways to Translation focused on the main entry points through which translated literature had been developed and supported. Through a series of presentations, the speakers explored the role of professional programmes and publishing fellowships at international book fairs, examined how creative residencies for literary translators had functioned as spaces for sustained work and transnational exchange, and analysed the dynamics of public funding schemes for translation across Europe.

The discussion addressed how public investment had translated into cultural outcomes, how funding structures had shaped translation flows, and how different forms of institutional support had complemented one another in strengthening the European translation ecosystem.

Speakers:
— Michalis Kalamaras, Thinking (Greece) / Limassol International Book Fair (Cyprus)
— Adriyana Paneva, Sofia Literature and Translation House (Bulgaria)
— Yana Genova (Bulgaria)

Moderator:
— Svetlozar Zhelev (Bulgaria)

The conference was organised by the Next Page Foundation in partnership with the Cultural Center of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”, the Department of English and American Studies at Sofia University, and the Bulgarian Book Association. It formed part of ThinkPub — Thinking Publishing, a project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union and the National Culture Fund of Bulgaria.
